Starting over isn’t easy. It’s been four months since I made the scary, hard leap after Beautycounter shut its doors. A dream I had been building for nine years came crumbling down, leaving me lost, heartbroken and confused.

Come along with me as I walk through my day (quite literally!) People always as, “how do you get that many steps in a day?!” But honestly, it just seems like normal life. 😅

When our kids were little I felt like “man! I never sit down!” I started wearing an Apple Watch and realized that it’s absolutely true.
.
.
I’ve been listening to the book, “Good Energy” but @drcaseyskitchen and LOVING it. It’s great motivation to find many ways to fit in more movement and make healthier choices at every turn. I find when I know the WHY it always makes sticking to healthy choices easier. For me, the why of looking a certain way is never a very powerful motivator. But feeling good, and truly being healthy from the inside out, being able to move and be active with my kids for hopefully decades to come? Well that’s the kind of motivation that lasts.

Even if you work a desk job or don’t have the ability to be super active in your daytime hours, what I’ve been learning from Good Energy is that even 10-15 minutes of walking after every meal and small bursts of activity more frequently throughout the day can have tremendous impact on overall health.
.
.
Note: A 3-4 mile walk every day is a great goal for anyone who is able. Walking 3-4 miles a day gets you well toward 10k steps a day. And with the rise in popularity of affordable walking pads, even if you are at a desk, you can still sneak in some extra movement throughout the day. 🙌🙌

The jeans I reach for when I want to be truly comfortable. They are just a tad shorter on me than I might say is ideal (I’m almost 5’10 for reference) but I can live with that for the comfort. They wash well, don’t get too loose with wear and are a more classic cut than other jeans in my closet. The perfect “mom needs to get stuff done while looking cute” outfit. #momstyle #momjeans #jeans #momlife

Two years ago right after we had our fourth baby, Joe suggested one of the things I should do to make life easier was to stop packing cold lunches for my kids at school. And honestly, at first I was really judgmental about the idea. I bristled against it. In my head I had the idea that I was a mom who made their kids cold lunches. I wore it as an internal badge of honor. 🥴😝 Somehow in my mind homemade lunches were superior.

But out of sheer necessity for my sanity, I said that entire year would be a year of no sack lunches and I held to it. And you know what? It was awesome. It saved money, saved me a ton of stress, forced my kids to learn to try and enjoy a variety of foods, and, it turns out, our school lunches are actually pretty decent and well-rounded.

Celebrated all weekend with our favorite FIVE year old. I’ll gush and cry and remember all about his amazing heart next week when we celebrate his heart-anniversary but for now, where do I start with this kid? He is full of LIFE, dynamic, passionate, curious, creative and always has a tender hug and huge smile to give his mom. 🥰 I just love him to the moon and back and am so glad God decided to make me a “boy mom” starting with this cool dude.

I used to HATE this idea. Brush up against it. Resist it. During the very hardest of seasons (and there have been many!) I just wanted to”the season to end” without realizing that what I truly needed was to allow the good work to be done in me to grow my capacity to hold the hard.

Even as our capacity grows, the hard is still hard. Sometimes very hard. But we no longer live life fearing the next hard thing or the next hard day, because we trust in our ability to hold whatever hard comes our way.

This absolutely can’t - for me - be done outside of my faith in Jesus. Part of learning to “hold the hard” and grow my capacity has also been growing in my trust and faith in the one who numbers my days and guides my steps. Knowing that truly, even in the hardest of days, what He has put before me is for my good and Hs glory. ❤️

That feeling when your worst case scenario turned out to be the plot twist your heart (and skin!) needed. Not only is my skin looking and feeling amazing, but it feels so fun to have a fire for work again.
